Pet Adventure Day 2008
By Joan Glover
Pet Adventure Day 2008 at Ella’s Dog Park in Deer Park, Texas, recently
celebrated its sixth year in operation. AKC-affiliated clubs and other
dog-related organizations are invited to participate in this community
event each year to publicly promote dog ownership responsibility.
On
April 12, 2008, two members of the Greater Houston Boston Terrier Club
(GHBTC) represented their organization with a booth at Deer Park’s
Pet Adventure Day. The members who attended were Debbie Kilpatrick and
Joan Glover. Joan also brought BeBe, Ch. Wyndsong’s C Bouncin’
Bet-E Go, to demonstrate to the public the wonderful attitude and disposition
of the Boston terrier.
At Greater Houston Boston Terrier
Club table, dog owners could pick up an information brochure about the
club. There were also coloring books and dog safety books for children.
Information on the Boston terrier and the breed’s known health issues
were also available. All dog breeds have certain health problems, and
the little Boston is no exception. However, a responsible breeder will
have health checks done on his breeding stock (eyes, hearing and patellas)
to ensure that every male and female that is bred is clear of these problems.
When a buyer is aware of these issues and carefully chooses a responsible
breeder from which to purchase his puppy, he can be assured that he will
have a healthy, happy, forever companion and will spend less time at the
vet’s office. (CONTINUED)
